After being value-engineered out of the original construction, DTW airport management soon determined the need for window shades at the south-facing ticketing area. Creative Windows worked collaboratively on a design + build strategy to provide an automated shade control system that complemented existing architecture and provided relief to both passengers and airline staff.
To accommodate the work in a bustling airport terminal, Creative Windows employed three kinds of specialized lifts to give installers safe and unobtrusive access, designed and fabricated special hardware to preserve the unique architectural integrity, and utilized a sophisticated shade control system to operate 79 custom roller shades and 485 motors operated automatically based on both predetermined sunrise and sunset times and in response to the amount of sunlight striking the glass.
