Country Club Dining Room Drapery and Sheer Roman Shade

We’re honored recipients of the 2021 Detroit Design Awards for window treatments on this project.  Constructed in the early ‘90s, the interior finishes of this prominent Ann Arbor golf and country club were starting to show their age.  The central dining spaces, consisting of a wine bar, club room, private dining space and patio, were overly large, causing it to appear empty and the space lacked energy, even when occupied.  During a 2020 refresh, the execution of new window treatments was a collaborative effort between the interior designer and local window treatment contractor.

New window treatments not only provide impactful focal points, highlighting large windows that frame the exterior landscape, but they also serve to define each unique space in the clubhouse.  The private dining room is meant to provide an elegant dining experience for special occasions and private events.  The newly installed window treatments, planned for this space, include a multi-layered fabric treatment.  Stationary drapery panels frame a wood paneled alcove and flank a sheer hobbled roman valance that is near fourteen feet wide.  Working to highlight, rather than conceal, the elegant details of the original woodwork was a challenge overcome through thoughtful design.  The overall style is a nod to the traditional grandeur, intrinsic to this formal dining area, while the fabrics and whimsical trim provide an airiness and pop of color that helps bring the space to life.
